The week before Christmas
It's the week before Christmas and I struggle to find something to write about. i have done so much this month like shop, clean, bake, and still have so much to do that I have not had a chance to sit down and write at all. My son has proven what a grown up young man he is by not getting under the tree and shaking the presents this year as he has in past years. All I really want for Christmas is Peace, Love and spending time with my family. Oh and my nephew is on his way home as we speak he's probably in the air on his way to either Atlanta airport or he's already made it that far and is on his way to Charlotte N.C. Let the holiday festivities begin. Happy holidays to one and all and lets not forget the reason for the season.

Virginia Tech Book
I am reading the most interesting book on the school shootings at Virginia Tech college that is located in Blacksburg Va. I'm sure most people have heard of it. The tragedy was felt around the world. This book explains what happened on that day and also gives you a little bit of background on the ones that was killed on that day. This school is only about 40 minutes from my home and in small towns like we live in when one town hurts they all do.

It's that time of year again
It's hard to believe that its that time of the year already. I think I will try to go out and get a little christmas shopping done today. My son has been great this year he only had two things on his wish list but of course he'll probably get more. The years are rolling by so fast for me. It seems like when I was a child growing up it did not go so fast in fact when I was a preteen I could not wait for time to go by so that I could be 16, then 18, then 21 now I'm saying why is it going so fast yeah now that I'm 40 something.

A SPECIAL MAN
A special man left this world this week. A man I have known all my life. He was beloved by all that knew him and touched so many lifes. His name is Cecil Belcher and he was pastor and modirator at the Old Regular Baptist church inWest Virginia. Although I know longer live there or attend that church he still had a very special place in my heart and I will always think fondly of him. He helped to baptize me when I was 15 years old. I honor this man and he will be missed more than I can imagine.

Thanksgiving dinner(early)
We are having thanksgiving early at our church tonight because so many people have thanksgiving at home or with their families on that special day. I made a red velvet cake and pea salad for the occasion. I love getting together with family and friends. I have so much to be thankful for. God has truly blessed me and my family.

Wonderful day
An absolutely wonderful day. My husband and I ran errands and then stopped off at Rio Grande our local mexican resturant for a bite of lunch. We then shopped a little bit before heading home to a perfectly romantic afternoon. Enjoy your mate and let them know everyday how special they are. After all just because your married does not mean that you have to stop dating. Have a date night now and then.

Anniversary
Today is my 17th anniversary. I am married to the man that I have loved since laying eyes on him 18 years ago. Has it been perfect? No. But he is perfect for me. We have had our ups and downs what married couple hasn't but he still is the love of my life and although I didn't always know it I now know that I am the love of his. Maybe we are getting older and more settled but I love him more today than ever before. Our arguements have become fewer through the years and I now know that rather than fuss we both just smile and agree to disagree. Oh how I look forward to the years ahead with this wonderful country boy that I call husband. Happy anniversary honey.

Has anyone heard?
I have not been posting for awhile because of a couple of reasons first of all my nephew that I speak of here often is I think I have mentioned in the Navy He has not been back long from Kuwait and now is back at his home port in the states. Well he somehow has contacted Epstein-Barr Virus. Has anyone heard of this? I am doing some research on it now. I went to the Ole timey day this week-end but needless to say it was hard to have a good time with Matt on my mind. But I could not be with him so I went on and helped out where I could but leaving every so often to try to hear something from him. I think I have made no mistake in saying that he is like a son to me. My son and him are like brothers. Well this being said please keep him in prayer and hug somebody near and dear to you today. We can't tell people we love them enough.

Rain Date
We did not get to have ole timey day due to rain it is posponed until next Saturday. It was a fairly nice week-end all in all> I really don't have much to say this morning I'm not into the political viewpoints not that I don't have opinions its just that I feel at this point in time and with reading the history of my Bible I feel it's all about fulfilment in which no man or woman can do anything about. I now thank its more about love and getting along. I think we as a nation should be preparing ourselves for whats ahead and love, love, love, one another.

Ole Timey Day
Next week-end is Ole Timey day in the town where I live. Its the third annual. My husband has been involved in it since the beginning. It is given by the Shockley family but lots of people in the community do things. Me and my husband help with the corn meal and buckwheat grinding that is done the ole timey way with the grist mills. Our church will be selling homeade fried apple pies and cold drinks. There also will be homeade ice cream, molassas making, apple butter making, all kinds of equiptment and ole timey tractors. Horses galore. there is lots more to noumerous to mention. But I will add that there will be ole time bluegrass and gospel music and all this is just on Saturday. On Sunday there will be all this plus an ole time tent church service. If anyone is in the area of Hillsville, Va we welcome you to come enjoy and have a good time of fellowship with us.

Knee Replacement
I made myself a promise that I would not make this blog something negative that I would always try to say positive things here. I do want to touch on something for just a moment. My mom is facing surgery for torn cartilage and possible knee replacement if there is any one out there that had had this done or is facing the same type of surgery will you get in touch with me. I'd like to get some more opinions on it and how people got along after the surgery. I'd be pleased to hear from you. Thanks and have a blessed day.

The ring
My husband lost his mother back in April and it has been a hard time for him. He had bought his mom a ring some years back and it was given back to him after her death. She had wore the ring until it was wore into. I took the ring to the jewelry store and had it fixed and cleaned. I now wear it almost everyday. There's not a day goes by that I don't think of her I believe with all my heart that she is in a better place as she did a lot of suffering her last days here on earth. Anyway I just looked down at my finger and saw the ring and the reminder that I had a very good mother-in-law. How could I not love this woman she gave me the best thing she could ever have given me. MY HUSBAND.

A mother's pride
I try not to brag to much on my son but I am so very proud of him. He is supposed to speak in front of about 200 (more or less) people this thursday . It is a school christian club that he belongs to. His topic is taken from the Bible John chapter 12. Although I try very hard not to be prideful I still have to say I thank God for blessing me with a good son. As I know all of you that have children know that we put them first and ourself last. God bless you all and have a very good day.

It's that time of year again
Well it's that time of year again. Time for the big labor day flea market that hits Hillsville Va every year. I live on the outskirts of town but it's still Hillsville and I enjoy it. Not only the flea market but the many yard sales that go with it. If you are into this come on into town and check us out. If not I suggest you stay as far away from here as possible being it's one of the largest around and there will be thousands upon thousands of people here.

The party's almost over
Well it seems like we have ran all weekend doing things for B.J. On friday night we took him shopping and then to the Pizza Hut. Saturday he went on a fishing trip with his buddy from church it was an all day adventure and yes I did hear about the one that got away. But he has really gotton into fishing and I'm glad because that is a good thing to keep a young boy busy. He has a cousin who loves to fish who he does not see anymore I think the two of them would have made good fishing buddies. Then last night a preacher from down the road and his daughter took him out to eat. Today after church our friends Mark and Tracy and their girls are taking him along with his dad an I to the mexican restuant. So all in all its been a great weekend for him with lots of eating going on. Have a great day and God Bless.

Off to the Walmart
Today is the day we do the dreaded, the buying of the tennis shoes. My son who will be 13 on thursday is a counrty boy through and through and all we hear at our house when it comes to buying shoes is boots, boots, boots. He owns several pair and thats all we will wear but his P.E. teacher has informed them all that a pair of tennis shoes is of the upmost importance for this class.(Which I had told him this already before school started but who listens to mom right). So anyway we are off to the Walmart store to buy tennis shoes which I could have already purchased a week ago before school started which leads me to believe I'm not so dumb after all. Am I in this boat alone. I seems like as my son reaches these teenage years we knows everything and we as his parents no nothing. Whats up with that?

fiddlers convention
It's that time of year again. It's time for the old time fiddlers convention in Galax Virginia. This for those of you who do not know is world wide known. I do not attend but have on occasion drove by to see the thousands of people and sometimes listen to it on the radio. I live in the next town over which is Hillsville. Which is also known world wide for its labor day flea market which is all over town and one of the biggest so I am told. This I do partake in since I happen to be a lover of flea markets and yard sales. If your ever in our neck of the woods drop on by and check it out if this happens to be something of interest to you. Have a blessed day.

Party on friday
Today was my husbands company picnic. He works for the Virginia Dept of Transportation. We had a great time, We had some friends of ours that also worked there and his wife to furnish the music. We had great food, hoseshoe contest, golf contest, bingo, fifty fifty drawings and lots of door prizes. I met alot of people I didn't know but had heard my husband talk about quite alot. It was a great day of fun and fellowship. But the only thing is I am not used to going to partys during the week so now today has seemed like Saturday all day. Now tomorrow is Saturday and I feel like I should be getting ready to go to church. Go figure. Have a great weekend.

Concerning Shoping
I took my son shopping today at the neatest little shop it has a little of something for everyone. Its called the sunnyside store and even though its in my hometown people come from all over to visit this store. I could spend hours in there looking at all the different unique things that you can't find just any where. I'm sure they must have a website its worth taking a look around. www.sunnyside store .com. My son is into John Deere and they have alot of that but they also have something for every colector if you can't find it here I don't know where it is. Today my son brought two pair of jeans reasonably priced and a western shirt. He's all about farming, bull riding and just plain country. Well I guess this is my tip of the day. Have a good one and may God Bless.

I am so thankful for my family
Tomorrow will mark the 80th birthday of my Aunt Ruth and I am planning to go to her party. I feel so blessed to have such a wonderful family that has lived such long lives. My Aunt Georgia who is the oldest of twelve children is 89 years old. My daddys family has been blessed to have only lost two children out of the twelve. Uncle Cain died as an infant and Uncle Charles died in his fifties from liver and kidney problems. God bless my family and may they all live long and happy lives I love you one and all.

there is a very special friend out there that I hope is reading this blog. I would love for you to get in touch with me . It's been a long time and I'd love t talk to you . Being the great talker and reader that you are I feel like you will read this. It's been a long time so I hope I find you.
feeling a little nastalgic today
I've been washing clothes today I don't know if I have mentioned it but I am a coalminers daughter from W.Va. I thought of the song coal miners daughter and how her momma washed their clothes on a washboard. My momma did that in her earlier days but not when I could remember it. I watched her wash on an old wringer washing machine many times. I don't know what brought this to mind I guess I am just feeling nastalgic today. Write and tell me about the way that you grew up.

I thank God for my many friends
I went to visit a friend today whom I have known for awhile. She is always uplifting and gives me the straight talk. She has seen my ups and my downs but thank God right now its all up. I 'd like to say that friendship is one of the most important things to me in the world outside of God and family. I hope to make many more friends through this blog. I don't know who all reads this but I pray for each one of you. I took my friend some homeade bread. I guess I have said before that I love to bake. I share with family and friends because there is no way for me to eat it all and I consider it a way to witness. That is all for now God bless you one and all.

Always remember those keeping us safe
You know I started out with this site because I wanted it to be a happy place and somewhere people could come to to get a little inspriration or a good laugh. But so far there has been some unhappiness and I feel like sharing that as well. My cousin who had her 20 birthday on July 9, spent her day in the hospital making the decision as to weather or not to pull the life support on her husband who was 26. He had a brain tumor and they were getting ready to celebrate their one year wedding anniversary. So So sad. anyway to make a long story short he was on the Athens W.V. fire dept. and my hats off to those fine men and women they really did an great tribute to Chucks life and also showed so much support for this family. So I have gained a higher respect for these people. I now know they go above and beyond the call of duty. This is just the one I am familiar with but I bet they are this way all over the land. Now my son wants to be a firefighter.I could not be -prouder.Thanks again I salute you all.

Why Dr. Phil has made me sad
Watched an episode of Dr. Phil this evening about people that have been friends for many years and then they part ways for some reason or another. This happened to me and my friend. I don't think about it often but it saddens me when I do. Life is short. Well on a lighter note I had a great fourth of july spent it with mine and my husbands family. Hope all is well on your side of the hill

My son is excited because he is a big fan of U.N.C. basketball. Pray for us to have a safe trip down there and back. and God Bless you one and all.

Boy its a hot muggy day out there today I feel so thankful that we have not had the storms that a lot of states have had although my heartfelt prayers go out to them. My son is going to bible school this week and its been a real experience for him the whole church has been turned into biblical days. When I go pick him up and see all the costumes that are there it looks like I am looking back in time.
